About Family Inheritance Solutions
Empowering Australian families to resolve inheritance matters with clarity, respect and dignity
Family Inheritance Solutions is an initiative created to support families in planning for or resolving inheritance matters in a way that protects relationships, preserves legacies, and avoids unnecessary conflict.
We bring together a growing network of trained professionals lawyers, financial professionals, and communication coaches who share a commitment to helping families navigate estate-related matters through a structured, respectful, and non-adversarial approach.
Why we exist
We are in the midst of the largest intergenerational wealth transfer in history. As more families face difficult decisions and complex dynamics around succession and estate distribution, the traditional pathways assumption-based estate planning or costly litigation often fall short.
Families need better options. Options that balance legal clarity with emotional understanding. Options that reduce future conflict, or resolve disputes without further damage.
Family Inheritance Solutions exists to make those options accessible.
What is collaborative practice
Collaborative Practice is a voluntary, structured, and interdisciplinary method of resolving legal issues without going to court.
It began in the early 1990s in the United States, pioneered by family lawyer Stuart Webb who envisioned a process where lawyers could work with each other and their clients not against them to reach solutions grounded in respect and mutual understanding.
Since then, Collaborative Practice has grown into a globally recognised approach for resolving family law disputes and has been formally adopted across jurisdictions, including the Uniform Collaborative Law Act (USA) and professional guidelines issued by bodies like the Law Council of Australia.
Wills and Estates
Over the past decade, Collaborative Practice has been successfully adapted for Wills and Estates both in estate planning and in resolving disputes post-death. In this context, the model allows families to come together with legal, financial and emotional support to:
Plan for succession with clarity, input and consensus
Resolve inheritance disputes without damaging court battles
Preserve dignity, legacy and family relationships during emotionally charged times
This model is now being practised in most jurisdictions across Australia and beyond with trained professionals supported by local and national practice groups.
Trusted by international and national organisations
Collaborative Practice is not new and it is not experimental.
It is a well-established, internationally endorsed model of practice backed by major professional bodies, including:
- International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP)
- Queensland Association of Collaborative Practitioners (QACP)
- Collaborative Professionals WA (CPWA)
- Collaborative Practice Canberra (CPC)
- Australian Association of Collaborative Professionals (AACP)
- Collaborative Professionals NSW (CPNSW)
- Victorian Association of Collaborative Professionals (VACP)
These organisations provide training, standards, and community for professionals who practise this way. The model is recognised as an ethical, effective, and human-centred method of legal practice.
Who we are
This register is maintained by Family Inheritance Solutions Pty Ltd, an independent organisation established to promote and support collaborative, multi-professional approaches to inheritance matters. While the company is privately held, its work is guided by a growing advisory board of experienced professionals across Australia representing different jurisdictions and professional disciplines involved in inheritance planning and resolution.
Our aim is not just to connect families with trained professionals, but to build a culture where collaboration, prevention, and dignity are seen as the gold standard in succession and inheritance matters.
How we're different
We do not provide legal advice or act for clients. We don’t take sides. We don’t promote a single profession. Instead, we:
- Maintain a vetted directory of professionals who are specifically trained for wills and estates collaborations
- Provide resources to help families understand this respectful process
- Promote public awareness of collaborative approaches to inheritance matters
We are committed to fostering innovation in succession law and estate practice — grounded in compassion, clarity, and professional excellence.
Our mission
To ensure every family has access to a better way of resolving inheritance matters – one that preserves relationships, respects legacy, and empowers people to make decisions with clarity and compassion.
